“Go find a feature.”
Those are the words every photojournalist either loves or dreads. To translate for those who have never worked in the news industry, it means ‘we have a hole in the newspaper and we need you to fill it.” And by the way, you are on deadline. Good luck.
Some days you succeeded, some days were more challenging. But you never came back without a story.
In those moments you learn to make something out of nothing and truly harness your storytelling skills. Though often humbling, these exercises in creativity helped make me who I am today.
My career has led me from a small-town newsroom, to the sidelines of game seven of the 2011 World Series, and the frontlines of an Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Along the way, I have been part of a Pulitzer Prize finalist team, earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration, managed dozens of communications campaigns, and created a blog dedicated to pierogi. While perhaps random on the surface, the common thread woven through all of these experiences is a love of storytelling and content creation.
My job has taken me around the world and introduced me to some incredible people who have allowed me to document their lives. I believe everyone has a story worth telling.
If you’d like to learn more about me, my story, or my work, don’t hesitate to reach out.
